On March 9, 2021, the Hydropower Foundation and the U.S. Department of Energy 's (DOE) National Renewable Energy Laboratory are hosting a STEM to Marine Energy Dialogue Workshop, part of the ongoing DOE Water Power Technologies Office’s STEM Dialogue Series, to discuss the Marine Energy Collegiate Competition (MECC). The dialogue will review the structure and requirements of the first two MECCs to gather feedback and lessons learned that can be used to structure future competitions. The MECC offers a valuable opportunity for students, providing real-world experience, education on the benefits and possibilities of marine energy, and a solid foundation for decision making in any field. If you followed or participated in previous MECCs, are interested in learning more about the competition, or would like to share thoughts on what organizers can do to improve the competition, please register for the free workshop.

STEM TO HYDRO DIALOGUE WORKSHOP ON THE HYDROPOWER WORKFORCE ASSESSMENT/JOB & ECONOMIC ANALYSIS
JULY 27, 2021 10 am - 11 am MDT
JULY 27, 2021 10 am - 11 am MDT
Join the U.S. Department of Energy's (DOE) National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) and the Hydropower Foundation on July 27 for the Workforce Assessment/Job and Economic Analysis STEM to Hydro Dialogue Workshop.
This free dialogue will identify strategies to address current workforce challenges and provide insight into future competency mapping of STEM skills to hydropower professions.
In addition to career mapping, NREL and the Hydropower Foundation will present the DOE Water Power Technologies Office’s Day in the Life Professional Profiles to apprise participants of the different hydropower workforce pathways. The discussion will help inform what additional career resources may be needed on the Hydropower STEM Portal.
Lastly, this dialogue will explore ways to improve information sharing between academia, trade and professional services, and the private sector to address education, research, and workforce needs. Beyond partnership collaborations and information sharing, the free workshop will also provide an overview of the Jobs and Economic Development Impact Model, a conventional hydropower model that allows users to estimate economic development impacts from traditional hydropower projects. Register for the workshop and learn more about the ongoing STEM Dialogue Series.
