Hiring for Hydro

UMASS - NHA Regional Meeting
8am-5pm


STUDENTS! WE WANT YOU!
On Wednesday June 5th, 2019, students who are taking coursework in electrical, mechanical renewable energy coursework, electronics, industrial technology, electricians, electrician apprentices, meter and relaying technicians, communications technicians, SCADA engineers, journeymen, welders, machinist, legal, energy systems engineering, utility resources, transmission, operations or other related coursework are invited to apply to attend Hiring for Hydro. ​

HERE IS HOW TO APPLY:
Students are asked to complete a short application with contact information, why they are interested in attending this Hiring for Hydro event and what coursework they have taken related to hydropower.  This information is due by May 4, 2019.

Once selected into the program the Hydropower Foundation will work with students to get a resume polished and help students be prepared for this exciting opportunity.

WHAT IS IT?
 
Be part of the inaugural Hiring for Hydro—a recruiting and educational event designed to attract and recruit bright, capable new workforce entrants to hydropower in the Northeast Region.  At this event, selected students, educators, hydro companies and their recruiters will meet for an action-packed day!

AGENDA
  • Learn about exciting advances in hydropower
  • Network with others interested in renewable energy
  • Awards Luncheon –Potential to receive industry scholarships awards for students
  • Hear from experts about the abundant career opportunities in the industry
  • Meet with industry recruiters
  • Participate in an education session where you will be provided with interviewing practice, hydropower resources from industry professionals & guidance with your elevator speech.              
TIMELINE UNTIL HIRING FOR HYDRO - JUNE 5th
  • March 15th - application process opens
  • April 12th, 2019- applications due
  • April 16th, 2019- students notified of acceptance and receive logistics for travel and attending event
  • Resumes are due for review by Friday, April, 19th!
  • May 1st, 2019- Final Resumes due for attending students
  • June 5th, 2019- Hiring for Hydro - Lowell, MA

The hydropower industry employs over 300,000 workers. With an expanding fleet of hydropower and a retiring workforce, now is the time to join the industry. Hydropower continues to grow and an estimated 700,000 jobs will be created by 2025.  This industry is stable, pays well, and provides benefits that are hard to beat.

Jobs Available in the Hydropower Industry
  • Installation Technicians - Installation Workers build and maintain hydropower  systems. They are responsible for constructing electrical and mechanical components such as turbines and generators.
  • Plant Operator - Plant Operators control the hydropower plant equipment. They read charts and examine data from meters and gauges to determine when to open and close valves and switches necessary to keep the plant functioning properly. They also look for evidence of operating problems.
  • Plant Efficiency Operator -  Plant Efficiency Operators inspect hydropower  plant equipment, gather data and read meters and gauges. They ensure that hydroelectric power plant equipment is kept in good condition to avoid power interruptions.
  • Plant Electrician - Hydroelectric Plant Electricians test, inspect, and make sure the electrical components of all plant systems are properly installed, repaired, and maintained.
  • Maintenance Technicians -  Maintenance Workers inspect water-powered electrical generators and maintain and repair equipment including electric motors, switch gears, pumps, hydraulics, water transmission systems and flood channels.
  • And so much more!
