The engineering
contest is an annual event for engineering students in colleges
throughout the United States. The contest is an opportunity for students
and other interested people to demonstrate their ideas for turning
water into power. To compete, each individual or team is required
to construct a device that converts the gravity potential of water
into mechanical power and then submit the device for testing under
competition conditions. Cash prizes, scholarships, and awards are
provided to winners.
The school
curriculum, Water Works: A Question of Balance, is targeted for
students and classes in grades 4 – 8. These hands-on, minds-on
units help students explore the scientific and social links between
the hydrologic cycle, rivers and electricity. In addition, many students
use the hands-on activities as a means for developing projects that
can be placed in science fairs.
Lastly, we invite people of all ages to take the Hydro IQ Quiz. Find out if your base of knowledge is as good or better than others. Done in an easy, interactive manner, correct answers and comparisons to the number of others who answered correctly occur as you proceed through the quiz.
